At Affinity Acupuncture, we’re always looking for how we can best serve our patients, whether that be with continued education, new services, or more providers. Well we are so excited that Rachael Bahre has decided to join our team and add health coaching to our offerings!

Health coaching can mean different things to different people, and each coach may have a different approach or different expertise. Below, Rachael breaks down the basics of health coaching, FAQs, and more about her areas of training and expertise!

What is a Health Coach?

A Health Coach is someone who specializes in helping people change habits, patterns, and beliefs to be able to accomplish their health and wellness goals. Health Coaches often take an integrative approach to supporting someone achieve their goals by understanding the client on a holistic level and assisting with their diet, lifestyle, and mindset.

What Does Health Coaching Look Like?

Coaching sessions vary based on your needs as a client but may look like setting attainable health goals, learning tools to manage stress/anxiety, discovering unconscious patterns and beliefs that are keeping you stuck, and being supported in a non-judgmental space to work through limiting beliefs about yourself and your health.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

Health coaching can be a great way to change patterns, habits, and beliefs so you are able to accomplish your wellness and lifestyle goals, but results will vary from person to person. While we will work through many of your barriers to success in our one-on-one sessions, to have the best results, we recommend completing any additional “suggested homework” between sessions and take advantage of reaching out for support in between sessions.

Results May Look Like:
● Reduced stress and/or anxiety
● Improvement to your overall health, energy, and well being
● Positive shifts in your mindset and habits
● Feeling ease and excitement in taking care of yourself
● Feeling empowered to advocate for yourself and your health

What is the Time Commitment?

The commitment for 12 Weeks to Better Health includes meeting with the Health Coach for one hour, twice a month for three months. In addition, your Health Coach may recommend some self-led practices and “homework” in between sessions to enhance your results and create sustainable change.

Can I Just Do One session?

Changing any aspect of your lifestyle or habits doesn’t usually happen overnight. In fact, it usually takes at least 90 days for a new behavior to stick, but without any sort of accountability, many of us don’t make it to the full 90 days to see long-term improvements to our well-being. Following a program for three months with individualized support and accountability gives you the best chance to maintain new habits for the long run.

How Do I Know if Health Coaching is Right for Me?

● You struggle with emotional eating or stress eating
● You know that the dieting and restricting isn’t helping you, but you want to improve your overall
health and wellness
● You find it difficult to maintain self-care practices or make time for rest
● You want to feel empowered, energized, and confident
● You are open to learning new concepts/tools to help you on your healing journey

Health coaching isn’t a quick fix or an all-encompassing solution, rather it’s an integrative approach to sustainable and long-lasting change. It’s also important to note that Health Coaching is not medical care or therapy. It is primarily focused on accountability, motivation, and behavior change through the lens of holistic wellness. It’s having someone in your corner as you navigate your health and life.

Rachael’s Background and Approach to Health Coaching

I got into health coaching because I wanted to help women feel empowered to take charge of their mind and body wellness, learn how to advocate for themselves, and find ease in navigating confusing messaging about how they “should” be taking care of their bodies.

When I first jumped into the world of health coaching in 2018, I was navigating a chronic illness diagnosis, a lifetime of binge eating and diet cycling, and living in survival mode. I didn’t feel like I had any control in my life. I enrolled in a Health Coaching training program to learn how to optimize my well-being without extremes and I developed a passion to help others do the same. I firmly believe that you deserve more than a temporary band aid and generic standard of care. You deserve a personalized approach to wellness and I cannot wait to support you!
